The Vagina Monologues Sells Out at Venice Performing Arts Center in Philadelphia, Empowering Women’s Voices with Mayor’s Office of Women’s Engagement
Philadelphia, PA — August 17, 2025 — The Venice Performing Arts Center in Manayunk was filled to capacity on Sunday night as the Mayor’s Office of Women’s Engagement presented a sold-out production of The Vagina Monologues, a groundbreaking play that has been performed around the world as a celebration of women’s stories, resilience, and power.
Originally written by Eve Ensler, The Vagina Monologues is a collection of raw, moving, and often humorous performances based on interviews with women from diverse backgrounds. Each monologue explores topics such as body image, intimacy, empowerment, survival, and identity, weaving together a powerful tapestry of the female experience. The production has long been recognized as a catalyst for dialogue about gender, equality, and the importance of giving women’s voices a platform.
The Philadelphia production brought these themes to life in a local context, aligning with the mission of the Mayor’s Office of Women’s Engagement to highlight women’s histories, amplify women-led enterprises, and celebrate the diverse voices that shape the city.
For Unorthodox Therapy Inc. (UTInc.), being part of this sold-out performance was more than an honor. It was a reflection of their mission: to create spaces where women can access healing, connection, and joy through community.
“This was more than a performance; it was a movement,” said Monychann (Mo) McCarty, founder of UTInc. “To stand in solidarity with women leaders, storytellers, and community members in a packed theater reminded us of the power of laughter, vulnerability, and collective healing. Supporting this production is directly tied to our mission of making mental health accessible, real, and rooted in women’s lived experiences.”
The evening proved that wellness and empowerment are not only found in clinical settings but also in creativity, storytelling, and shared joy. By laughing, crying, and celebrating together, the audience experienced what it means to “work hard and play hard” as servant leaders and advocates for women across Philadelphia.
The sold-out success of The Vagina Monologues is both a celebration and a call to action: women’s voices matter, women’s stories matter, and creating spaces for them to be heard is essential to building stronger, healthier communities.
Unorthodox Therapy Inc. is proud to have supported this milestone event, reinforcing its commitment to being the first line of support for women’s mental health in Philadelphia.
