Behind the Scenes: Mayor’s Office of Women’s Engagement Brings Women Together for The Vagina Monologues Production
Philadelphia, PA — The Mayor’s Office of Women’s Engagement recently took a refreshing step into the world of art and storytelling with a special production of The Vagina Monologues, celebrating the power of women’s voices in a space of creativity, connection, and joy.
The performance was not just a show, it was an opportunity for women from all walks of life — leaders, professionals, advocates, and community members — to step away from their roles as constant givers and embrace a night of expression and fun. Behind the scenes, the energy was filled with laughter, encouragement, and the unique bond that happens when women gather with the freedom to create something meaningful together.
As servant leaders, many of the women involved in the production are often seen on the frontlines of civic service, advocacy, and community care. This production provided a chance to honor that hard work while reminding everyone of the importance of play, sisterhood, and collective creativity.
“The Vagina Monologues is a reminder that women’s stories are powerful, vulnerable, and worthy of being heard,” shared one participant. “Being part of this project wasn’t just about a performance, it was about finding joy and connection with women who are usually pouring into everyone else.”
The behind-the-scenes moments told their own story — makeup chairs full of chatter, last-minute rehearsals filled with encouragement, and bursts of laughter that captured the heart of what this production represented: women showing up for each other with authenticity.
For the Mayor’s Office of Women’s Engagement, this production was a chance to demonstrate that leadership is not only about policy and programs. It is also about creating spaces where women can experience restoration, joy, and shared humanity.
Unorthodox Therapy Inc., along with other community partners, proudly celebrated this production as part of the broader vision of supporting women’s voices, histories, and mental well-being across Philadelphia.
