Unorthodox Therapy Joins Mayor’s District 1 Women’s Engagement Tour to Champion Mental Health Amid Inflation

UNORTHODOX THERAPY JOINS MAYOR’S OFFICE FOR INAUGURAL DISTRICT 1 TOUR: A COMMUNITY-FIRST APPROACH TO MENTAL HEALTH, INFLATION, AND ACCESS

Philadelphia, PA — The Mayor’s Office of Women’s Engagement is hitting the streets — and the first stop is right here in Philadelphia’s First Councilmatic District. With the support of local leaders and community-rooted partners like Unorthodox Therapy, this tour is not just a listening session — it’s a movement.

Unorthodox Therapy, a nonprofit mental health organization proudly based in District 1, is thrilled to co-facilitate this powerful kickoff. The theme is clear: How do we manage our mental health during the rising cost of living — and what tools, resources, and city-supported programs are already available to help us thrive?

“This isn’t just an event — it’s a reclaiming,” says Mony (Mo) McCarty, founder of Unorthodox Therapy. “Women and families deserve access to what their tax dollars pay for. They deserve to maintain their wellness and their dignity, even when life gets expensive.”

The First District stop will offer hands-on wellness activities, brief keynote segments, and direct access to city programs many residents don’t even know exist — especially those supporting women, families, and caregivers. The experience is designed to be intimate, honest, and actionable.

While many engagement efforts start with a speech and end with a flyer, this tour is built differently. Attendees will walk away with both personal strategies and practical knowledge on how to get support — from mental health to housing, financial assistance, maternal care, and beyond.

“The Mayor’s Office of Women’s Engagement isn’t waiting for people to come to City Hall — they’re coming to us,” McCarty adds. “And that shift matters.”

As the first of ten citywide tour stops, this event sets the tone for what neighborhood-centered governance looks like. And with homegrown partners like Unorthodox Therapy at the table, the First District is making sure that healing starts at home.
