Unorthodox Therapy Founder and Board Members Attend Tribeca Film Festival Highlighting Animation and Storytelling

New York, NY – This summer, Monychann (Mo) McCarty, Founder of Unorthodox Therapy, along with several members of her board, had the privilege of attending the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. The team immersed themselves in a celebration of creativity, culture, and the transformative power of storytelling. A standout experience was “Whoopi’s Wonderful World of Animation,” a curated collection of animated shorts by the legendary Whoopi Goldberg.

The 79-minute program showcased the diversity and depth of animation as a medium for storytelling, featuring films that explored themes of resilience, connection, and humanity.

Featured Films in the Program:

  • The Mayfly

  • Nate & John

  • LUKi and the Lights

  • Scrubby

  • In the Shadow of the Cypress

  • Budō

“Attending the festival with our board members was an inspiring experience,” shared McCarty. “Animation transcends traditional storytelling by tapping into universal emotions and perspectives. Engaging with these stories alongside our board reinforced our collective vision for Unorthodox Therapy—to harness the power of creative expression as a pathway to healing.”

Unorthodox Therapy, a nonprofit based in Philadelphia, bridges the gap for women seeking holistic mental health solutions by incorporating the arts and community-driven experiences into its approach. The presence of board members at the festival underscores the organization's collaborative commitment to integrating innovative and culturally relevant practices into its initiatives.

Board member participation allowed for a shared exploration of new ideas and strategies to enhance the nonprofit’s programs. Their collective experience at Tribeca serves as a catalyst for future projects that will utilize storytelling and the arts as tools for empowerment and healing.

As Unorthodox Therapy continues to expand its impact, experiences like the Tribeca Film Festival reaffirm the organization's belief in the power of storytelling as a form of healing and community building.
