Unorthodox Therapy Joins Fire Department Family Day to Support Graduating Class and Their Families
Philadelphia, PA — This fall, the Philadelphia Fire Department hosted a Family Day in celebration of its graduating class, welcoming spouses, children, and loved ones who support firefighters through every stage of their journey. While Unorthodox Therapy Inc. (UTInc.) does not typically participate in departmental family events, the organization made a purposeful decision to show up, connect, and share its mission with the families in attendance.
Family Day was a joyful gathering filled with pride, laughter, and community. It also provided an important opportunity to recognize that behind every firefighter is a family that carries its own responsibilities, sacrifices, and emotional weight. UTInc. was honored to be present, not only to celebrate the graduates, but also to introduce families and spouses to the resources and support the nonprofit offers.
Unorthodox Therapy exists to serve communities, and that includes the families who stand behind public servants. By engaging with spouses, parents, and children at the event, UTInc. shared information about mental health resources, community support, and the importance of caring for emotional well-being as a household, not just as individuals.
“We wanted families to know that Unorthodox Therapy is here for them too,” shared Monychann (Mo) McCarty, founder of UTInc. “Firefighters serve our city every day, and their families carry that service at home. Being present at Family Day was about honoring that sacrifice and making sure families know support exists beyond the job.”
The event reflected the strong sense of unity within the fire department community. As families celebrated their loved ones’ accomplishments, UTInc. was grateful for the chance to listen, connect, and be part of a day rooted in pride and togetherness.
By participating in the Fire Department Family Day, Unorthodox Therapy reinforced its belief that mental health and community care extend beyond traditional spaces. Supporting families is an essential part of supporting the people who serve our city.
Unorthodox Therapy looks forward to continuing to build relationships with community partners and families who are the backbone of Philadelphia’s public service institutions.
