Philadelphia Nonprofit Unorthodox Therapy Supports CHOP and Penn’s $50M Autism Research Collaboration

Unorthodox Therapy Celebrates CHOP and Penn’s $50M Autism Partnership with Personal Connection and Community Voice

Philadelphia, PA – Unorthodox Therapy, a woman-founded nonprofit rooted in mental health, family healing, and faith-based community care, proudly recognizes the $50 million philanthropic partnership between Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Penn Medicine to establish a groundbreaking autism research and treatment institute.

For Unorthodox Therapy, this isn’t just a cause—it’s part of our story.

“My son began his journey at CHOP. From day one, we were supported, seen, and walked through care with excellence,” shares founder Mony McCarty. “When he later transitioned into therapy services at Penn, that same commitment to care followed him. This new partnership between CHOP and Penn reflects everything we’ve experienced firsthand: alignment, integrity, and hope for families like ours.”

Unorthodox Therapy serves as a frontline support system for families navigating mental health, neurodiversity, trauma recovery, and systemic barriers to care. With programming that connects underserved women and mothers to healing tools, therapeutic services, and communal support, the organization operates with deep empathy for what families face outside of clinical walls.

This collaboration between two world-renowned institutions is a landmark investment into autism research across the lifespan. It speaks not only to medical innovation but to the importance of care that evolves with families as they grow.

“We may not be funding clinical trials,” McCarty adds, “but we are in the homes, the schools, and the spiritual spaces where healing begins. This donation affirms what we already believe to be true—healing happens when systems connect, and families are supported on every level.”

Unorthodox Therapy is proud to stand behind this initiative and uplift the voices of families across Philadelphia who have long waited for expanded research, representation, and resources in the autism space.

As a nonprofit built on experience and conviction, Unorthodox Therapy remains committed to bridging the personal with the professional and making sure no family walks the path of autism alone.
